تعداد اعصاب مغزی دوازده جفت است که به ترتیب عبارتنداز:

عصب قرقره‌ای
عصب سه قلو یا سه شاخه
عصب ابدوسنس
عصب چهره‌ای
عصب دهلیزی حلزونی
عصب زبانی حلقی
عصب واگ
عصب فرعی
عصب زیرزبانی
عصب بویایی (زوج یکم) و بینایی (زوج دوم) فاقد هسته هستند، درحالی که بقیه اعصاب مغزی دارای یک یا چند هسته می‌باشند.
